Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a change of major to Mays Business School, you must:

• Be admitted as a freshman at Texas A&M University.
• Have completed at least 27 credit hours at Texas A&M.
• Not exceed 60 completed credit hours (this includes all college-level coursework after high school, but excludes AP, IB, or dual credit earned in high school).
• Meet the GPA requirements.

GPA Requirements: Read Very Carefully!

When calculating GPA for 4-hour courses, only use 3 credit hours of the graded component.

For admission into either the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) or Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSB), you must:

• Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and
• Have a 3.5 GPA or higher in your Qualifying Coursework (see below).
• To be considered for a major change, you must complete all 4 Required Qualifying Courses listed above.
• If 2 or more of the 4 Required Qualifying Courses were completed outside of Texas A&M, you must submit a waiver as part of your application. Courses taken at Texas A&M – Galveston will count toward these requirements.
• All grades earned in qualifying courses will be included in your Qualifying Coursework GPA.
• If you Q-drop or withdraw from any qualifying course, your Change of Major application must include a waiver explaining the decision to Q-drop or withdraw.
• Advising Tip: Students interested in majoring in Accounting or Finance are strongly encouraged to take ACCT 229 at Texas A&M.

Approved Qualifying Coursework

Requesting a Waiver:

If you do not meet the minimum eligibility criteria, you may still apply by requesting a waiver. However, waivers do not guarantee admission.

Request a waiver if any of the following apply to you.

• You do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements
• Two or more of your required Qualifying courses were taken outside of Texas A&M
• You Q-dropped or withdrew from a qualifying course
• You Q-dropped or withdrew from any Texas A&M course

To request a waiver:

• When submitting your Change of Major Request via Howdy, check the box labeled “I don’t meet requirements.”
• Complete the required essay explaining:
  • Why you are seeking a waiver,
  • How the desired major aligns with your academic and career goals,
  • Any extenuating circumstances that impacted your eligibility,
  • Any additional relevant information for the review committee.
