Transition Academic Programs (TAP) at Texas A&M University

Transition Academic Programs (TAP) serves students across the university as they explore majors, change academic paths, return to good standing, or prepare for acceptance into a degree-granting program. Through personalized advising and structured support, TAP helps students develop realistic academic plans, select appropriate coursework, and successfully transition into a designated major and toward graduation. TAP also administers the university’s alternate admission and transitional programs. TAP includes: General Studies (GEST), Texas A&M–Blinn TEAM Program, Aggie Gateway to Success and the Explore Program!

What is General Studies?

General Studies  (GEST) is a temporary pathway intended for students who need one or two semesters to complete the coursework required for admission into a specific major. Students may remain in GEST for no more than two semesters, and their designated intended major must be approved each semester to ensure it is realistically attainable based on their academic history. The goal of GEST is to support students in transitioning into an appropriate major and progressing successfully toward graduation.
