Requirements to Change Major to Biomedical Science (BIMS)

Must have all requirements met at the time of application:

  • Must have a 3.0 GPA

Must have completed the following five (5) required CBK courses:

  • BIOL 111, BIOL 112, CHEM 119, CHEM 120, MATH 142 (MATH 147 or MATH 151 or MATH 171)
  • These courses must have a grade of a “C” or better. 
  • At least one required Chemistry should be taken in residency at Texas A&M University (College Station, McAllen, or Galveston)
  • Minimum 12 credit hours completed at TAMU. Maximum hours is 80 credit hours. (excluding AP and dual credit)
  • Change of major information
Preferred Coursework:
  • MATH Core #2 (MATH 140 or MATH 148 or MATH 150 or MATH 168 or STAT 201) with a D or better
  • CHEM 227/237 with a C or better
Bachelor of Science in University Studies, Biomedical Sciences Concentration (USVM)

  • University Studies Biomedical Sciences Concentration (USVM)

    Must have all requirements met at the time of application:

    • Must have a 2.75 GPA

    Must have completed the following five (5) required CBK courses:

    • BIOL 111, BIOL 112, CHEM 119, CHEM 120, MATH 142 (MATH 147 or MATH 151 or MATH 171)
    • These courses must have a grade of a “C” or better. 
    • At least one required Chemistry should be taken in residency at Texas A&M University (College Station, McAllen, or Galveston)
    • Minimum 12 credit hours completed at TAMU. Maximum hours is 80 credit hours. (excluding AP and dual credit)

    • This major offers more flexibility to complete professional school prerequisites and students choose two minors. One of the two must be a physical science minor.

    • Preferred Coursework:
      • MATH Core #2 (MATH 140 or MATH 148 or MATH 150 or MATH 168 or STAT 201) with a D or better
      • CHEM 227/237 with a C or better
