Department of Anthropology
Requirements to Change Major to Anthropology (ANTH)
- Must have a 2.00 GPA at the time of application
- Completion of at least 6 hours of coursework between the three options below:

Department of Atmospheric Sciences
Requirements to Change Major to Meteorology (METR)

- Must have a 2.50 GPA at the time of application
- Required Coursework: MATH 171 or 151*, ATMO 201 with a B or better, CHEM 119 or PHYS 206 with a C or better.
- The GPA for CHEM, MATH & PHYS classes that apply to the degree plan must average a 2.5.
- Students with Transfer credit in CHEM, MATH or PHYS courses that apply to the degree plan must have a B or better.
Department of Biology - Biology, Molecular, Microbiology and Zoology
Requirements to Change Major to Biology (BIOL), Molecular and Cell Biology (BMCB), Microbiology (MBIO) & Zoology (ZOOL)
- Must have a 2.65 GPA at the time of application
- BIOL 111 with B (or 2.5 average if BIOL 111 & 112 completed at A&M)
- CHEM 119 with B (or 2.5 average if CHEM 119 & 120 completed at A&M)
- MATH 147 with a C or better (alternate courses: MATH 151 or 171, AP Credit is OK)

Molecular and Cell Biology Program Information
If transitioning "early" (in less than 4 semesters), it is required for TEAM students to have a GPA at A&M of 2.5+ and transfer course GPA of 3.0+ and:
- MATH 147 with grade of C or better (alternate courses: MATH 151/2413 or 171)
- MATH 148 with grade of C or better (alternate courses: MATH 152/2414 or 172 or STAT 201/MATH 1342)
- One of the following sequences at A&M (the other sequence may be at Blinn)
- BIOL 111 & BIOL 112 (1406 & 1407) with a grade of B or better in EACH course, and a BIOL GPA 3.0+
- If student has AP or transfer credit for BIOL 111 will want to see a grade in BIOL 112 or 213 or 214 taken at A&M
- CHEM 119 & CHEM 120 (1411 & 1412) with a grade of B or better in EACH course, and a CHEM GPA 3.0+
- If student has AP or transfer credit for CHEM 119 will want to see grade in CHEM 120 or CHEM 227/237 or CHEM 257 or CHEM 228/238 or CHEM 258 taken at A&M
- BIOL 111 & BIOL 112 (1406 & 1407) with a grade of B or better in EACH course, and a BIOL GPA 3.0+

Requirements to Change Major to Neuroscience-Molecular and Cellular (NRSC-MCB)
- Must have a 2.65 GPA at the time of application
- B (or 2.5 average if more than one BIOL completed at A&M)
- B (or 2.5 average if more than one CHEM is completed at A&M)
- MATH 147 with a C or better (alternate courses: MATH 151 or 171, AP Credit is OK)

Students must have fewer than 90 overall attempted hours and no instances of academic misconduct.

- Must have a 2.75 GPA at the time of application
- 30 A&M hours completed

- ECON GPA of at least a 3.0 from all attempted ECON classes
- No more than 75 total hours (including transfer credit, but excluding AP and dual credit completed in high school)
If you do not meet one or more of the requirements listed, you may submit a waiver request. You must select that you are requesting a waiver in the Howdy system and utilize the essay boxes.
NOTE: Students currently enrolled in ECON 203 or ECON 323 will be automatically denied. Applications with ECON 203 or ECON 323 in progress will NOT be held. Waivers are not considered for this requirement.
- A waiver is a request and should not be treated as a guarantee; as it can be denied.
- Waivers will be considered on a case by case basis, with consideration given to time to degree and remaining coursework.
- Students with more than 75 hours but less than 90 hours at the time of application may apply to change majors via waiver. Again, consideration will be given to time to degree and remaining coursework with the possibility of denial.
- A waiver denial is a final answer from the Department.
- Incomplete applications are denied and not automatically considered for waivers. It is your responsibility to know the requirements and your eligibility status.

Requirements to Change Major to Neuroscience - Behavioral & Cognitive
If you are applying to change majors into Neuroscience – BCN, you must meet the following requirements:
- Have no more than 60 completed hours (grades included: F; grades excluded: I, W, Q)
- Minimum 2.75 overall GPR
- Completion of PBSI/PSYC 107 with a minimum grade of C or better.
- Completion of PBSI/PSYC 235 with a minimum grade of C or better.
- Completion of at least one of the following math courses: MATH 147, MATH 151 (TCCNS MATH 2413), or MATH 171 with a minimum grade of C or better.
- Completion of BIOL 111 (TCCNS BIOL 1406) with a minimum grade of C or better.
- Completion of CHEM 119 (TCCNS CHEM 1411) or CHEM 107/117 (TCCNS CHEM 1470) C or better is required for ALL prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of C or better.
- Students are HIGHLY encouraged to take prerequisites at TAMU
Adding a Minor to the BS – NRSC (BCN) Degree
- CANNOT add a minor in PSYC to any of the NRSC degrees
- A non-neuroscience minor (with the exception of PSYC) is optional for majors. If chosen, a minor must consist of 15–18 credit hours and must be declared before the student completes 90 credit hours. No more than 6 hours from the minor may be used to fulfill other Core requirements. A grade of C or higher is required if a course is to be counted in the major or minor field.

Department of Sociology
Requirements to Change Major to Sociology (SOCI)
- Must have a 2.50 GPA at the time of application
- Must have taken at least one SOCI course and received a “C” or better
- No more than 90 hours completed
- No change of major between the last day of preregistration and five workdays after final grades post in accordance with Texas A&M Student Rule 5.1.

Requirements to Change Major to Statistics (STAT)
- Must have a 3.00 GPA at the time of application
- 3.0 GPA or better in MATH 171/172 (or 151/152; or 147/148) with no grade less than a C
- Must complete at least one MATH course on STAT degree plan in residence at TAMU
- 3.0 GPA or better in all MATH and STAT courses taken in residence at TAMU that apply to STAT degree plan
- Completion of STAT 211 with a B or better is currently competitive.

Requirements to Change Major to Bioinformatics (BIOI)
- Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Minimum 12 hours completed with no more than 90
- Must have MATH 147/151/171 completed with a C or better
- Preferred: BIOL 111; CSCE 110/111; STAT 211 completed with a C or better
- To be considered for review, the applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in "Required Coursework" as well as 3.0 or better in all MATH, STAT, BIOL, CSEN courses taken in residence at TAMU that apply to the BS BIOI degree plan.
