Agriculture and Life Sciences

Change of Major Request Dates:
  • August 16th 2023 - September 18th 2023
  • December 19th 2023 - February 12th 2024
  • May 14th 2024 - June 25th 2024 

3.25 Agricultural Business (AGBU)
  • At least 12 graded hours at A&M
  • Must have completed MATH 140 and MATH 142 (or equivalents); C or Higher
  • Must complete at least 6 hours from the following list of courses:
    • AGBU – AGEC 105, ACCT 229, ACCT 230, ECON 202, ECON 203 (C or Higher)
  • Additional Requirements
    • Minimum GPA of 3.25 overall and in required coursework listed above.
    • Minimum GPA of a 2.0 in any AGBU major or CBK coursework at TAMU. Admission is competitive and a 3.25 is a minimum. Meeting the requirements along will not guarantee acceptance.
    • Essay must demonstrate why student would like an AGBU degree.
 
2.75 Agricultural Economics (AGEC)
  • At least 12 graded hours at A&M
  • Must have completed MATH 140 and MATH 142 (or equivalents); C or Higher
  • Must complete at least 6 hours from the following list of courses:
    • AGEC – AGEC 105, ACCT 209 or 229, ACCT 210 or 230, ECON 202, ECON 203 (C or Higher)
    • Minimum GPA of 2.75 in both overall TAMU coursework and in all required coursework listed above
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher on any AGEC Coursework Completed at TAMU.
  • Essay must demonstrate why student would like an AGEC degree.


2.50 Agricultural Communication & Journalism (AGCJ)
  • Must have completed less than 90 hours.
  • Less than 45 hours: Must complete at least 21 hours of core curriculum including 1 core MATH, AGCJ 105 and a 3-hour Agriculture & Life Sciences course.
  • 45 – 74 hours: Must complete all core curriculum.
  • Must include in the change of major essay an interest and experience in Communication and Journalism. 
 
2.00 Agricultural Leadership (ALED) 
  • Must have 24 hours completed but less than 90 total hours.
  • Less than 45 hours: must complete at least 21 hours of core curriculum including 1 core MATH, ALED 202 and a 3 hour Agriculture & Life Sciences course.
  • 45+ hours: complete ALL core curriculum at time of application
  • Complete the application and answer all required essays.
  • Must be completed or currently enrolled in ALED 202.
  • Must include in the change of major essay an interest and experience in leadership, agriculture and one possible university approved minor. 


2.75 Agricultural Science (AGSC) change of major information
  • Must have a 2.75 GPA at time of application
  • Must have less than 90 hours completed.
  • Must maintain a 2.75 to remain in major.
  • Less than 45 hours: must complete majority of core curriculum and 1 core MATH at time of application.
  • 45 hours or more: Must complete ALL core curriculum at time of application.

2.00 Agriculture Systems Management (AGSM)
  • Must have completed: MATH 140, CHEM 119 & either ACCT 209 OR ECON 202 with B's or better
  • Preferred Completion: ACCT 209 or ECON 202, MATH 142, PHYS 201(or equivalents) with B’s or better 
  • Students who have completed most of the required and preferred coursework have a better chance of admission consideration. It is preferred to have B’s or better in the listed coursework, although a C is accepted for course completion. 
  • Additional classes successfully completed for AGSM, such as AGSM 201 and 301 or other business related classes (ECON 203, ACCT 210, etc) can boost your application for review. 
     

2.75 Animal Science - Production Industry Option (ANSC-PIN)
  • Have completed ANSC 107/108 & CHEM 119 with a B or better
  • BIOL 111, MATH 140, MATH 142 are highly preferred.
  • No more than 75 completed hours
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Application is to a specific degree option. Changes of degree tracks are not permitted after student is admitted to ANSC.

3.30 Animal Science - Science Option (ANSC-ANS)
  • Have completed ANSC 107/108 & CHEM 119 with a B or better
  • MATH 140, MATH 142, CHEM 120 and BIOL 111 are highly preferred with B's or better
  • No more than 75 completed hours
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Application is to a specific degree option. Changes of degree tracks are not permitted after student is admitted to ANSC.

2.00 Bioenvironmental Sciences (BESC)
  • Must have completed BIOL 111 or CHEM 119
  • Prefer BIOL 112, CHEM 120 and BESC 201
  • Must include in the change of major essay an interest in Bioenvironmental Sciences

2.0 Biological & Agricultural Engineering (BAEN)
  • Must have completed MATH 151, MATH 152, CHEM 107/117 or BIOL 111, & PHYS 206 with B or better.
  • Prefer PHYS 207 with a B or better
  • Applications for change of curriculum are only considered if a student has completed the required coursework. Students seeking a change of curriculum from another engineering major should also have PHYS 226 and PHYS 227 completed with B’s or better. Additional coursework towards engineering may enhance a prospective student’s application, if they have lower than B averages in all courses.
  • It is also required to have a 2.75 GPA in the math/science coursework for competitive review

  2.50 Biochemistry & Genetics (BICH & GENE)
  • Must have completed at least 12 graded hours at TAMU
  • Must have BIOL 111 with a C or better
  • Must have CHEM 119 and MATH 151 or 171 with a B or better
  • Preferred to have BIOL 112 (C or better), CHEM 120 (B or better) & MATH 152 or 172 (B or better)

2.50 Ecology & Conservation Biology (ECCB):
  • Must have completed at least one full semester (12 graded credit hours) at TAMU
  • Students in excess of 70 credit hours should have completed course work that closely adheres to the program curriculum
  • Students must submit a one page typed essay with Change of Curriculum Application, explaining why want to major in ECCB and how they plan to use degree in regards to career
  • Ecoinformatics Track: Must have completed:
    • BIOL 111 (C or better) 
    • BIOL 112 (C or better)
    • Either two courses completed: MATH 140, MATH 142 and/or CHEM 119
      • Student must complete at least one MATH course to be eligible to change majors
  • Ecology & Conservation Biology Track: Must have completed:
    • BIOL 111 (C or better)
    • BIOL 112 (C or better)
    • Either two courses completed: MATH 140, MATH 142 and/or CHEM 119
      • Student must complete at least one MATH course to be eligible to change majors
  • Forest Resources Track: Must have completed:
    • BIOL 111 (C or better) 
    • BIOL 112 or ECCB 205/215 (C or better)
    • Either two courses completed: MATH 140, MATH 142 and/or CHEM 119
      • Student must complete at least one MATH course to be eligible to change majors
  • Vertebrate Zoology Track: Must have completed:
    • BIOL 111 (C or better) 
    • BIOL 112 or ECCB 205/215 (C or better)
    • Either two courses completed: MATH 140, MATH 142 and/or CHEM 119
      • Student must complete at least one MATH course to be eligible to change majors

2.00 Entomology (ENTO) 
  • Must have completed at least one full semester (12 graded credit hours) at TAMU
  • Must have completed ENTO 201, MATH 140, MATH 142, BIOL 111 & BIOL 112
  • Students in excess of 70 credit hours should have completed course work that closely adheres to the ENTO curriculum (CHEM 119, CHEM 120, BIOL 111, 112, MATH 140, 142 and university core curriculum requirements)
  • Students must submit a one page typed essay with Change of Curriculum Application, explaining why want to major in ENTO and how they plan to use degree in regards to career
     

2.00 Forensics & Investigative Science - Pre- Law Emphasis (FIVS-LWE) 

22-45 hours
  • At least one completed semester at TAMU
  • Two science courses completed (listed below)
  • One core MATH (listed below)
  • One other required course listed below

2.5 Food Systems Industry Management (FSIM)
  • At least 12 graded hours at A&M
  • Must have CHEM 119 & PHYS 201 completed with C’s or better on both.
  • Preferred MATH 140, MATH 142 and CHEM 120 or PHYS 202 with C or better
  • No more than 70 hours completed.
 
2.0 Horticulture (HORT)
Change of major information
  • At least 12 graded hours at A&M
  • Must have completed either BIOL 101 or 111 or CHEM 119 or MATH (core) or STAT 201 or HORT course 
  • Preferred completed courses: BIOL 101 or 111, CHEM 119, MATH (core) or STAT 201, HORT 201 & HORT 203
  • Must include in the change of major essay an interest in Horticulture

3.00 Nutritional Science- Didactic (NUTR-DPD) 
2.50 Nutritional Science- General Nutrition(NUTR-General) 
  • At least 12 graded hours at A&M
  • Must have CHEM 119 & CHEM 120 with Cs or better.
  • Prefer completion of BIOL 111, BIOL 112, MATH 140 and MATH 142 with Cs or better

2.00 Plant and Environmental Soil Science (PSSC)

  • Must have POSC 201 completed with a C or better
  • Preferred completion a core MATH, BIOL 111 and CHEM 119
  • Attend a change of major meeting with Poultry Science Advisor


2.50 Rangeland, Wildlife & Fisheries Management (RWFM):
  • Must have completed at least one full semester (12 graded credit hours) at TAMU
  • Students in excess of 70 credit hours should have completed course work that closely adheres to the program curriculum
  • Students must submit a one page typed essay with change of major application, explaining why you would want to major in RWFM and how the specific track can be used in regards to career interest 
  • Aquaculture & Fish Management: Must have completed:
    • MATH 140 & MATH 142
    • BIOL 111 (C or better)
    • Either BIOL 112 or ECCB 205/215 or CHEM 119 (C or better)
  • Natural Resource Management Policy: Must have completed:
    • MATH 140 & MATH 142
    • BIOL 111 or BIOL 107 (C or better)
    • Either HORT 201/202, ECCB 205/215 or CHEM 119 (C or better)
  • Rangeland Management:
    • MATH 140 & MATH 142
